Dangote Refinery Supplies 71% Of Nigeria’s Petrol In August, NMDPRA

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery supplied almost 36 million litres of petrol daily to the Nigerian market in August, accounting for about 71 per cent of the country’s total Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) receipts, according to the NMDPRA’s August 2026 State of the Midstream and Downstream Sector factsheet released Thursday. Domestic PMS receipts rose 39 per cent from 25.8 million litres per day in July to 35.9 million litres per day in August, while petrol imports fell 26 per cent from 19.7 million to 14.6 million litres per day, meaning domestic receipts exceeded imports by 21.3 million litres per day.

Total PMS receipts rose 11 per cent from 45.5 million litres per day in July to 50.5 million litres per day in August, even as PMS consumption declined 14 per cent from 48.3 million to 41.5 million litres per day. NMDPRA data showed the Dangote refinery produced an average of 41.94 million litres of PMS daily in August, of which 35.87 million litres went to the domestic market and 9.73 million litres were exported, with the refinery ending the month with 360.4 million litres in stock and operating at an average capacity utilisation of 105.21 per cent.

Crude oil receipts to domestic refineries rose 17 per cent from 585,000 barrels per day in July to 683,000 barrels per day in August, with domestic crude accounting for 79.64 per cent of total refinery feedstock between January and August. Petrol stock sufficiency improved marginally from 22.4 days in July to 22.9 days in August. The data also showed a sharp 84 per cent decline in diesel imports and a 16 per cent drop in domestic diesel supply, while aviation fuel receipts rose 63 per cent, reflecting the continued reshaping of Nigeria’s fuel supply structure toward domestic refining.
