A faction of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has urged the Federal Government to reduce the pump price of petrol to between ₦350 and ₦400 per litre and increase workers’ wages to ease the growing cost-of-living crisis.

The group made the demands in a communiqué issued after its monthly National Executive Committee meeting in Lagos. It expressed concern over the economic hardship facing Nigerians, citing rising living costs, hunger and inflation as major challenges affecting households across the country.
Afenifere also criticised the government’s proposed petrol price stabilisation arrangement, arguing that a reduction in fuel prices was necessary to ease pressure on transportation, food prices and other essential goods. It called for urgent measures to improve the economic well-being of citizens.
Beyond the economy, the group expressed concern over what it described as growing intolerance among some political actors ahead of the 2027 general elections. It warned against inflammatory statements capable of increasing political tension and narrowing the space for democratic engagement.
The communiqué was signed by Afenifere National Leader, Oba Oladipo Olaitan, and Secretary-General, Alade Rotimi-John. The group reiterated the need for government policies that address citizens’ welfare and promote stability.
