The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has cautioned candidates seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions against accepting admission offers processed outside its Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), warning that such offers will not be officially recognised.

JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, gave the warning during a question-and-answer session at the 2026 Annual Education Summit organised by the Education Correspondents Association of Nigeria in Abuja. He was represented at the event by the board’s Public Communication Advisor, Dr Fabian Benjamin.

Oloyede explained that candidates must ensure their admission offers are processed through CAPS and obtain their official JAMB admission letters to be recognised as legitimate students. He warned that candidates who secure admission through unofficial channels risk losing recognition, even if they have been offered places by their chosen institutions.
The board reiterated that compliance with its admission procedures is essential for candidates seeking valid admission into universities, polytechnics and other tertiary institutions. It urged applicants to verify their admission status through the appropriate channels and avoid arrangements that bypass the official process.
