Education stakeholders have welcomed Oyo State’s new Education Sector Plan for 2026–2030, describing it as a framework for improving learning outcomes, expanding infrastructure and guiding educational development across the state over the next five years.
The plan was unveiled at the Ibadan Business School through a collaboration involving the Oyo State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, the Education Champions Network and other civil society organisations, with support from the Malala Fund.
Speaking on behalf of the Aid for Rural Education Access Initiative, Programme Manager Ifeoluwa Adewole said the plan provides measurable targets for assessing progress between 2026 and 2030. She stressed that the state government must take ownership of its implementation, while development partners and civil society groups continue to provide support.
Representing the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Olusegun Olayiwola, the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Toyin Oyinloye, described the document as a framework for transforming the sector. She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to working with relevant partners to improve access to education, quality of learning and inclusiveness.
Meanwhile, YouthHub Africa Executive Director Rotimi Olawale noted that the plan was developed through consultations involving several ministries, civil society organisations and schoolchildren. He emphasised that effective implementation would determine its impact, while Sola Fagorusi, Executive Director of Onelife Initiative and consultant on the plan, said the document reflected more than a year of discussions and stakeholder engagement.
