Former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has denied reports that he called on Nigerians to reject the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the claim as a misrepresentation of comments he made during an interview in 2022.

In a statement issued by his media office on Sunday, October 11, 2026, Adelabu said the video circulating on social media was taken from an interview he granted when he was the Accord Party’s governorship candidate in Oyo State. He argued that the excerpt had been presented without its original context, creating the impression that he was opposed to the APC and President Bola Tinubu.
According to his media team, Adelabu’s comments at the time reflected his view that Nigerians should assess political candidates based on their character and credibility rather than party affiliation. It maintained that his remarks were not intended as a call to reject the APC or oppose the President.
The statement also addressed tensions surrounding the APC’s governorship nomination process in Oyo State, insisting that Adelabu’s demand for transparency and internal democracy should not be interpreted as disloyalty to the party. His media office said he remained committed to the APC and maintained a cordial relationship with Tinubu.

The former minister’s team challenged those circulating the video to release the complete, unedited recording so the public could assess his remarks in context. It also urged Nigerians and media organisations to verify information before sharing it, warning that misleading claims could create unnecessary divisions within the party.
