Dangote Joins Djibouti, Ethiopia Leaders For $160m Fuel Storage Terminal Groundbreaking

President of Dangote Industries, Aliko Dangote, has joined Djibouti President Ismaïl Omar Guelleh, Prime Minister Abdoulkader Kamil Mohamed and Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali for the groundbreaking ceremony of a fuel reserve storage and pipeline project in the Republic of Djibouti. The foundation stone for the petroleum product storage terminal at the Damerjog Industrial Park was laid in a ceremony also attended by Djibouti’s Minister Delegate for Investments and Private Sector Development, Mariam Hamadou Ali, and Minister of Energy Dr Djama Mohamed Hassan.

The infrastructure spans about 80 hectares within the industrial park and represents an estimated $160 million investment, spearheaded through a partnership between the Dangote Group and Ethiopian Investment Holdings. The tank farms will store petroleum products, including gasoline and diesel, before distribution through pipelines to other countries, with the terminal featuring a storage capacity of 375,000 cubic metres and a transit capacity of up to 5 million tons of petroleum products annually.

The facility will connect directly to the Damerjog-Nagad railway line and link to the Damerjog Liquid Bulk Port via a common collector system for efficient logistics. For landlocked Ethiopia, the project offers an alternative to heavy road transport, cutting logistics costs, easing highway congestion and securing long-term energy supply, forming part of Dangote Industries’ broader expansion of petroleum infrastructure across Africa.
