The Nigeria Police Force has urged church members to be mindful of the personal information they disclose during public testimonies, following the arrest of four suspects over an alleged plan to kidnap a female cleric in Abuja.
The warning was issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Intelligence Response Team, Adamu Muazu, who spoke while the suspects were being presented to journalists. According to the police, the alleged plot targeted a prophetess identified as Elizabeth and was intended to be carried out after an evening church service.
Muazu advised religious leaders to review security arrangements around their churches, particularly those located in secluded areas. He stressed the importance of monitoring access points, entrances and exits, as well as taking precautions to protect worshippers who leave services late at night.

The police also expressed concern over allegations that some of the suspects had close connections to the intended victim and the church leadership. One of the suspects was reportedly her driver, while another allegedly worked as a bodyguard to the church’s senior pastor. The suspects’ alleged involvement remains subject to the legal process.
