The Federal Government and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) have reached several agreements aimed at easing the impact of rising living costs on workers, following conciliation meetings held in Abuja.
Discussions took place on October 22 and 27, 2026, at the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment and were chaired by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi. The NLC delegation was led by its President, Comrade Joe Ajaero.
As part of the resolutions, government approved a ₦70,000 monthly transport intervention for workers across all levels for six months, beginning in November 2026. Peculiar allowances were also approved with effect from May 1, 2026, with arrears to be paid in three equal instalments from November.
Health workers are expected to receive 19 months of outstanding allowance arrears within three months, starting from December 2026. Meanwhile, the issue of tax relief for workers will be presented to the National Executive Council for consideration.
On the proposed new minimum wage, both sides agreed that a Minimum Wage Negotiation Committee would be constituted immediately and begin work, although they remain divided over the effective date for implementation.
For agricultural workers, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has submitted the list of beneficiaries and financial requirements for verification by the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC). The verification is expected to be completed within two weeks.

The NSIWC also said it would complete an updated cost assessment for the CONHESS adjustment within three weeks to enable the Presidential Committee on Salaries to consider the matter.
Both parties urged state and local governments to participate in the intervention process and agreed to reconvene after one month to review the implementation of the resolutions.
