TG Omori Details Costly Battle With Kidney Failure, Two Failed Transplants

Nigerian music video director ThankGod Omori, popularly known as TG Omori, has opened up about his battle with kidney failure, detailing the physical, emotional and financial toll of the illness. Speaking on the Afropolitan podcast aired on YouTube on September 23, 2026, he disclosed that he spent over six months hospitalised at a facility in Ikoyi, Lagos, during which only a tight circle of industry colleagues, including Olamide, Fireboy, Asake, Rema, Young John and Zlatan were aware of his condition.

Omori said finding a compatible donor was an agonising nine-month process; of six people initially willing to donate, all were ruled out by compatibility issues before his brother stepped forward. However, his body rejected the transplanted kidney, and a second attempt by doctors also failed to take, leaving his brother to live with only one kidney.

He detailed the steep cost of ongoing dialysis, saying a single session costs between ₦50,000 and ₦70,000 at standard hospitals and ₦150,000 to ₦200,000 at private facilities, with three sessions weekly pushing costs to between ₦500,000 and ₦600,000 a week. By his calculation, a year of dialysis while awaiting a transplant could total roughly ₦31 million, excluding tests or complications. “So automatically, if your salary is even one million naira a month, it can’t serve you,” he said, adding that the experience taught him that while money cannot buy happiness, it can buy time.
