JAMB Explains CAPS Admission Status Meanings For Candidates

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has explained the meanings of the “Not Admitted,” “Admission in Progress,” and “Admitted” statuses displayed on candidates’ Central Admissions Processing System, urging candidates to continue checking their CAPS for updates as the process progresses. It gave the explanation in an explainer video shared on Thursday.

Not Admitted” simply means a candidate has not yet been offered admission but does not necessarily mean they will not be admitted, JAMB said, advising affected candidates to keep checking for updates.

Admission in Progress,” meanwhile, could mean an institution’s admission officer has proposed a candidate but is awaiting the head of institution’s recommendation, or that the head of institution has recommended the candidate but the admission is still awaiting JAMB’s approval. The Board cautioned candidates against assuming this status meant automatic admission.
