Oyo Government Releases 2026 BECE, Schools of Science Entrance Results, Issues Fresh Directives to Principals

The Oyo State Government has announced the release of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results and the entrance examination results for admission into the Oyo State Schools of Science.

Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Olusegun Olayiwola, disclosed that the results are now available to candidates and relevant stakeholders through designated channels provided by the Ministry.

Olayiwola explained that the examinations were conducted to assess students’ academic performance and determine their readiness to progress to the next stage of their education.

He congratulated candidates who performed well and encouraged those who secured admission into the Schools of Science to make effective use of the academic opportunities provided by the specialised institutions.

The Commissioner also urged students to remain focused, disciplined and committed to their studies as they advance in their educational pursuits.

Meanwhile, Olayiwola has reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to improving teachers’ welfare, strengthening school security and ensuring quality education across public secondary schools.

Speaking on Thursday during a resumption meeting with principals of public secondary schools at Lagelu Grammar School, Agugu, Ibadan, the Commissioner assured teachers of continued government support through training and retraining, timely promotions and prompt payment of salaries and other entitlements.

He charged school administrators to prioritise students’ safety and wellbeing by ensuring that school gates and other entrances are properly secured, perimeter fences regularly monitored and overgrown bushes within and around school premises cleared.

Olayiwola also directed principals to establish functional Guidance and Counselling Units and Anti-Bullying Clubs to address challenges affecting students.

According to him, schools must organise regular sensitisation programmes on drug abuse and sexual abuse while providing safe and accessible channels through which students can report concerns.

Reiterating the government’s commitment to free and accessible basic education, Olayiwola warned school authorities against collecting unauthorised levies from students and parents.

He directed principals to organise regular Open Day programmes to strengthen parental involvement in students’ academic development and improve communication between schools and families.

On Continuous Assessment, the Commissioner explained that students should be assessed based on attendance, notebooks, participation in Open Day, textbooks, school-based tests and teacher-based tests.

He stated that each of the six components should carry 10 marks, with the total score of 60 divided by two to arrive at the 30 marks allocated to Continuous Assessment.

Olayiwola further directed principals to adopt the approved National Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) curriculum and disregard unauthorised versions circulating on social media.

He encouraged schools to integrate Information and Communication Technology (ICT) into teaching and learning where facilities are available, while urging stakeholders to promote the use of the recently launched Nigeria Learning Passport.

The Commissioner also reiterated the prohibition of mobile phones and other mobile devices during school hours, directing that any device confiscated from a student should be released only to the parent or guardian.

He warned that supervisors, invigilators and school heads found aiding or abetting examination malpractice would face appropriate sanctions.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Mrs Bamidele Oyinloye, urged principals to demonstrate exemplary leadership through punctuality, discipline, integrity and professionalism.

She stressed the importance of effective school administration and encouraged principals to maintain high standards in the management of their institutions.

Similarly, the Permanent Secretary of the Oyo State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Mrs Sherifat Abimbola, called on school administrators to prioritise students’ welfare, maintain discipline and ensure the proper management of government properties entrusted to their care.

In their separate goodwill messages, the President of the Association of Nigerian Conference of Principals of Public Schools (ANCOPPS), Comrade Babatunde Fasasi, and the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Comrade Hassan Fatai, commended the Ministry for engaging school administrators on issues affecting the education sector.

Both representatives reaffirmed their support for the state government’s efforts to improve education while appealing for sustained attention to teachers’ welfare, promotions and career progression.

The meeting provided an opportunity for education stakeholders to review administrative priorities, reinforce school safety measures and strengthen the implementation of government policies aimed at improving teaching and learning across Oyo State.
