Ivory Coast international striker, Elye Wahi, is under investigation by French authorities over allegations of spot-fixing linked to a French Ligue 1 match played in May.
According to reports by The Athletic, the 23-year-old forward was arrested by French police on May 29 as part of an investigation into suspected organised fraud, sports corruption, money laundering, and handling of proceeds of crime.
The probe centres on claims that Wahi deliberately sought to receive a yellow card during a Ligue 1 fixture between Metz and Nice on May 17. Investigators are reportedly examining suspicious betting activity connected to wagers placed on the player being booked during the match.
A spokesperson for the Marseille Public Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that the player was questioned in police custody and later released, while investigations continue.
The Ligue de Football Professionnel has also confirmed that it is monitoring the situation but has not initiated any disciplinary proceedings at this stage.
Despite the ongoing investigation, Wahi was included in Ivory Coast’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and featured in the country’s 1-0 victory over Ecuador.
Authorities have stressed that the investigation remains ongoing, with no formal charges announced against the player at this time.
