NDLEA Intercepts UK-Bound Cannabis, Drugs Concealed In Bread, Speakers

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has intercepted two shipments of synthetic cannabis, popularly known as Colorado, weighing 44.45kg from the United Kingdom, alongside consignments concealed in music speakers at two Lagos motor parks, with at least seven suspects arrested.

NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi said in a Sunday statement that operatives at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport intercepted 27 parcels weighing 32.20kg, leading to the arrest of real estate agent Abideen Jide Salami, while a follow-up operation on a second UK consignment weighing 12.25kg led to the arrest of Nurudeen Abiodun Kadiri, 44.

In Lagos, a music speaker rigged with three packs of Colorado bound for Abidjan and Liberia was intercepted at Maza-Maza, leading to the arrest of tour agent Ifeanyi Obed Augustine and consignment owner Obasi Ugochukwu, while a separate suspect, Ifeanyi Nwokolo Henry, was arrested at Iddo Park attempting to dispatch 2.1kg of Colorado to Kano.

The agency reported further arrests and seizures nationwide: pentazocine, codeine, tramadol, diazepam and MDMA in Delta State; 785,000 capsules of pregabalin (669.425kg) in Kano; 157,100 capsules of tramadol in Plateau State; 369.6kg of cannabis in Kaduna; and 876kg of cannabis in Bayelsa involving four suspects, including 70-year-old Godwoman Gboriye.

The NDLEA also destroyed 4,832.56kg of skunk cannabis across forest farms in Edo State and recovered 186kg of skunk hidden in a car boot in Ondo State.

NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.) commended officers involved in the operations and charged them to sustain the agency’s efforts to shut drug trafficking pipelines at airports, seaports, land borders and cultivation sites nationwide.
