Two Suspected Kidnappers Killed as Police Rescue Abducted Ogun Prince

The Ogun State Police Command has neutralised two suspected kidnappers and recovered an AK-47 rifle, mobile phones and other incriminating items during a follow-up operation launched after the abduction of the Prince of Okun Owa, Prince Idris.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Omolola Odutola (as stated in the official release), disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday in Abeokuta.

According to the statement, the monarch was abducted at about 7:30 p.m. on June 30, 2026, when armed men stormed his residence in Okun Owa and forcefully took him away.

Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, directed the immediate deployment of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and other tactical teams to secure the victim’s release and apprehend those responsible.

The police said sustained intelligence gathering and coordinated tactical operations mounted pressure on the kidnappers, leading to the safe rescue of Prince Idris on July 3 without any injuries.

The Command added that operatives subsequently intensified efforts to track down the fleeing suspects. Acting on credible intelligence, security operatives raided the Agoro/Imodi axis, where they encountered members of the gang.

According to the statement, the suspects opened fire on the police team, prompting a gun duel during which two of the kidnappers were neutralised, while others escaped with gunshot wounds.

Items recovered from the scene include an AK-47 rifle with an empty magazine, two mobile phones, a bag suspected to have been used for ransom collection and other exhibits believed to be linked to the kidnapping operation.

The police said the bodies of the deceased suspects have been deposited at a government morgue for autopsy, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing gang members and recover additional weapons and exhibits.

Commending the operatives, CP Ojajuni praised the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and supporting tactical teams for their professionalism, bravery and swift response.

He reiterated the Command’s commitment to identifying, tracking and dismantling criminal networks operating across Ogun State.

The police commissioner also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies, assuring them that the Command would sustain intelligence-led policing and robust tactical operations to safeguard lives and property throughout the state.
