Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has received the report of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry set up to investigate the May 15, 2026 abduction of students and teachers from Esinele and Yawota communities in Oriire Local Government Area. The report was formally submitted at the Executive Council Chamber in Ibadan on Tuesday.

The victims were held for 56 days before their release on July 10, following a joint security operation. The incident involved attacks on schools in the Oriire communities and raised concerns over the safety of pupils, teachers and residents in the affected areas. Seyi Makinde

Makinde commended the commission for its work in examining the circumstances surrounding the incident and making recommendations aimed at improving security. He said the findings should help strengthen measures to protect schools and communities across the state.port
He also called for the lessons from the incident to translate into concrete actions, while stressing the need for continued legislative and institutional efforts to prevent a recurrence and improve the safety of residents.
