Olubadan Inaugurates Committee to Integrate Traditional, Orthodox Medicine

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasidi Ladoja, has inaugurated a committee to drive the integration of traditional and orthodox medicine as part of efforts to improve healthcare delivery.

The inauguration was held on Wednesday at the committee room of the Olubadan Palace, Oke Aremo, Ibadan.

Speaking through the Director-General of the Olubadan Palace, Dr. Basiru Olanrewaju, the monarch said the initiative was aimed at ensuring that traditional and orthodox medicine complement each other for more effective healthcare delivery, not only in Ibadanland but across Nigeria.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Olubadan, Chief Solomon Ayoade.

According to the statement, Oba Ladoja expressed confidence in the effectiveness of traditional medicine, noting that both medical systems should work together to enhance healthcare services for the benefit of the people.

“I believe in the efficacy of traditional medicine because I use it and it works. There is a need for traditional and orthodox medicine to complement each other in the area of healthcare delivery,” the monarch said.

The Olubadan urged members of the committee, drawn from relevant stakeholder groups, to work diligently towards achieving the vision of integrating both healthcare systems for the overall benefit of society.

Representatives of the Forestry Research Institute of Nigeria (FRIN), the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, the Olubadan Palace, researchers and other stakeholders attended the inaugural meeting.
