The Ogun State Government has directed that end-of-session graduation ceremonies be limited to pupils and students in Primary 6, Junior Secondary School 3 (JSS3), and Senior Secondary School 3 (SSS3) across both public and private schools in the state.
The directive was contained in a circular issued by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and signed by the Director of Education (Private Schools), A.A. Bisiriyu, on behalf of the Permanent Secretary.
According to the circular dated June 18, graduation ceremonies for learners in Nursery, Kindergarten, and other non-terminal classes have been prohibited, with the government describing such celebrations as unnecessary and financially demanding for parents and guardians.
The state government also banned the use of canopies, aso ebi, customised outfits, and other extravagant social displays during end-of-session ceremonies.

It noted that schools should prioritise academic achievements and character development rather than organising elaborate events that place additional financial burdens on families.
The government further directed all proprietors, school heads, and administrators of public and private schools to ensure strict compliance with the new guidelines.
It warned that any school found violating the directive would face sanctions in line with existing regulations governing school operations in Ogun State.
