The Oyo State Government, in partnership with UNICEF and Value Female Network Africa, has commenced the Gender Transformative Positive Parenting Programme 1.0 in Ibadan.
The programme began with a two-day training for community facilitators on September 2 and 3, 2026, aimed at strengthening child protection and promoting positive parenting practices.
Speaking at the training, UNICEF Child Protection Specialist, Denis Onoise, said empowering parents and caregivers was critical to preventing violence, abuse and neglect of children.
He urged facilitators to take the knowledge gained to their communities and strengthen existing child protection structures.
The Executive Director of Value Female Network Africa, Costly Aderibigbe-Saba, said the programme would promote safer homes while addressing harmful practices such as sexual violence, female genital mutilation and child marriage.
She stressed that positive parenting involves creating an environment where children feel safe, respected and free to communicate with their parents.
Representing the Oyo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Mrs Adediran Oluwawemimo, urged parents to build closer relationships with their children to better understand and protect them.
