NARD Backs LAUTECH Doctors, Warns of Wider Strike

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors, NARD, has expressed solidarity with resident doctors at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, Oyo State, who are on strike over outstanding welfare and remuneration issues.

NARD said Friday marked the seventh day of the industrial action, following unresolved demands including minimum wage arrears, Medical Residency Training Funds, professional allowances and upgrade arrears.

The association said the issues had persisted since last year despite a five-day warning strike and a subsequent eight-week ultimatum issued to the Oyo State Government.

NARD President, Dr Mohammad Usman Suleiman, also raised concerns over severe understaffing, poor working conditions and dilapidated call rooms at the hospital.

He called on Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, to intervene and resolve the dispute, warning that failure to address the demands could lead to regional and national industrial action.

NARD said such escalation was avoidable if the outstanding agreements with the doctors were implemented.
