The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, as the running mate to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for the 2027 presidential election.
The party said the decision followed extensive consultations among stakeholders and was influenced by Amaechi’s strong showing in the party’s presidential primary, where he emerged as the runner-up, as well as his long record of public service.

In a statement issued on Monday, ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, described the Atiku-Amaechi ticket as a strategic partnership aimed at addressing Nigeria’s pressing challenges and restoring confidence in governance.
According to Abdullahi, the alliance brings together two experienced political figures with the capacity to provide leadership, strengthen national unity and drive economic growth.
He noted that Amaechi’s experience spans both the legislative and executive arms of government, having served as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Governor of Rivers State for two terms, and Minister of Transportation.
The party said such a broad range of leadership experience would be an asset to any future administration and would enable the proposed government to hit the ground running if elected.
ADC also highlighted Amaechi’s political influence across the South-South region and other parts of Southern Nigeria, saying his selection would enhance the ticket’s national appeal and strengthen support for the party’s coalition.
The statement further described the Atiku-Amaechi ticket as a balanced national platform capable of bridging regional and political divides while offering Nigerians an alternative vision for governance.
The party expressed confidence that the partnership would galvanize supporters, attract new allies and position the ADC as a strong contender in the 2027 general election.
ADC also called on party members, coalition partners, youth groups, women organizations, civil society groups and Nigerians across the country to rally behind the ticket as preparations for the election gather momentum.
