The Oyo State Government has declared Tuesday, June 16, 2026, as a public holiday in observance of the Islamic New Year, 1448 AH.
The announcement was contained in a circular signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Musibau Babatunde, and made available to journalists on Monday.
According to the state government, the holiday is to mark the commencement of the new Hijrah calendar year and allow Muslim faithful to celebrate the occasion.
The government also called on residents, particularly Muslims, to use the period to pray for continued peace, unity and development in Oyo State.
It further urged citizens to remain committed to promoting harmony and supporting efforts aimed at advancing the state’s progress.
Recall that more than 1,000 pilgrims from Oyo State who participated in the 2026 Hajj exercise in the Holy City of Mecca, Saudi Arabia, recently returned home safely after completing the pilgrimage.
