President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has praised the conduct of the All Progressives Congress presidential primaries, describing the exercise as peaceful, transparent and a strong reflection of internal democracy within the party.
The president spoke on Saturday after casting his vote at Ward L2, Ikoyi II, located at Ireti Primary School on Mekunwen Street in Ikoyi, Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State, where party members gathered for the nationwide exercise.
Tinubu commended APC members, governors and party officials for ensuring the smooth coordination of the primaries across the country, noting that the process had gone according to plan.
According to him, the exercise represents true grassroots politics, giving every registered party member the opportunity to participate directly in choosing the party’s presidential candidate.
The president also expressed satisfaction with the level of organisation, including delegate accreditation, membership validation and the overall electoral process carried out by party leaders nationwide.
Reacting to the large turnout of supporters at his polling unit, Tinubu thanked party faithful for their continued loyalty and enthusiasm, saying he was excited by the support shown during the exercise.
The presidential primaries were conducted simultaneously across the APC’s 8,809 wards nationwide as the ruling party began the process of selecting its candidate for the 2027 general election.
Under the new voting procedure adopted by the party, all registered APC members at the ward level were allowed to vote directly for their preferred aspirant, replacing the delegate-based system previously used for presidential nominations.
Results from the ward level are expected to be collated at local government and state levels before being forwarded to the APC Presidential Primary Election Committee in Abuja.
