Just hours before Nigeria’s crucial quarter-final showdown with Algeria, the Federal Government moved to address mounting concerns over unpaid bonuses by confirming that all outstanding payments to the Super Eagles have been processed and are currently being transferred to players’ accounts.
The timely intervention, announced Thursday by Minister of State for Finance Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite via her official X handle, appears designed to prevent any potential distraction that could undermine the team’s focus as they enter the knockout stages of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
In what represents a coordinated effort between key government institutions, the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank of Nigeria have worked together to expedite the release of group-stage bonuses that had become a source of worry in recent days.
Taking to social media to provide reassurance, Dr. Uzoka-Anite revealed that collaborative measures between the Federal Government and the Central Bank of Nigeria have successfully addressed the payment delays.
“The Federal Government and the Central Bank of Nigeria have successfully streamlined to ensure faster, more predictable disbursements aligned with international best practice,” she said.
The minister provided detailed updates on the payment status, confirming that bonuses accumulated during the tournament’s opening phase have completed all necessary administrative and regulatory clearances. “All group-stage bonuses were fully released and have now cleared the necessary regulatory stages,” the minister stated.
A notable aspect of the resolution involves accommodation of the players’ financial preferences. Dr. Uzoka-Anite disclosed that special arrangements were instituted to facilitate foreign currency payments, addressing specific requests from the national team members. “We have implemented a fast-track conversion process to move funds into foreign currency, honouring the players’ preferences,” she said.
Regarding the timeline for actual receipt of funds, the minister offered specific projections, indicating that the disbursement mechanism is already in its execution phase. “The final transfers to domiciliary accounts are currently in flight. Players can expect these funds to reflect starting today (Thursday) or tomorrow (Friday),” she added.
Beyond the technical aspects of the payment process, Dr. Uzoka-Anite sought to emphasize the government’s broader commitment to maintaining team morale as the Super Eagles progress deeper into the continental championship. “Our focus remains entirely on supporting the team’s welfare so they can maintain their incredible momentum in the knockout rounds,” she said.
The development effectively addresses what could have been a significant distraction for the Nigerian squad, which has navigated through the group stage and now faces a formidable Algerian side in their quest for AFCON glory. With financial matters now reportedly settled, the team can channel full attention toward their upcoming quarter-final battle.
The swift resolution also signals improved coordination between government financial institutions in handling sports-related disbursements, potentially setting a precedent for future tournament payments.

Show CommentsHi, Among design professionals, there\’s a bit of controversy surrounding the filler text. Controversy, as in Death to Lorem Ipsum. And that’s why a 15th century typesetter might have scrambled a passage of Cicero; he wanted people to focus on his fonts, to imagine their own content on the pages. He wanted people to see, and to get them to see he had to keep them from reading.
Hello! The decade that brought us Star Trek and Doctor Who also resurrected Cicero—or at least what used to be Cicero—in an attempt to make the days before computerized design a little less painstaking.
To some, designing a website around placeholder text is unacceptable Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet consectetur adipiscing elit. Quisque faucibus ex sapien vitae pellentesque sem placerat. In id cursus mi pretium tellus duis convallis.
But despite zealous cries for the demise of lorem ipsum Newsfy WordPress Theme
