The Muslim Community of Oyo State says abductors demanding Sharia concessions for kidnapped students and teachers in Oriire LGA do not speak for Islam.
In a statement Friday, community leaders condemned the criminals’ use of religious rhetoric, saying Islam prohibits kidnapping, terrorism, and extortion.
“Genuine Sharia promotes justice, peace and the protection of human life, values that directly oppose the violent actions of these criminals,” the group said. It stressed that the abductors cannot represent Muslims.

Citing Qur’an 5:32, the community noted: “He who slays a soul… shall be as if he had slain all mankind; and he who saves a life shall be as if he had saved all mankind.”The Muslim leadership pledged full support for security agencies and urged them to intensify rescue efforts.
It also called on residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity.Chief Imam of Ibadanland and Grand Chief Imam of Oyo State, Sheikh Abdul-Ganiyy Abubakar Agbotomokekere, will lead a special prayer session for victims’ release on Sunday, June 7, 2026 at Yidi Agodi Prayer Ground, Ibadan, 10:30 a.m.
The community thanked Oyo and federal governments for their intervention and prayed for wisdom for authorities and safety for security personnel.
