A magistrate court in Kano State has sentenced a man, Mohammed Saidu, to two weeks in prison and imposed a ₦100,000 fine for storing bags of human faeces outside his residence, creating a health hazard and causing distress to residents.
The court action followed complaints from neighbours who said the foul odour from the waste made living conditions unbearable. Despite several warnings and appeals from residents, Saidu reportedly continued the practice, prompting authorities to intervene.

Investigations revealed that Saidu, a septic tank operator, allegedly stored the waste for resale to farmers who use it as fertilizer.
Before delivering judgment, Magistrate Halima Wali visited the premises and described the act as irresponsible and a threat to public health. The court ordered Saidu to remove all the waste immediately and warned against repeating the offence.
Residents welcomed the ruling, saying the intervention has significantly improved sanitary conditions in the area. Local community leaders also expressed hope that peace would be restored between Saidu and his neighbours after he serves his sentence.
