Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, has pledged to prioritise technology, infrastructure, education, healthcare, youth development and support for businesses as part of his proposed agenda for the state. The commitment signals a broad-based approach to governance that touches on some of the most pressing needs of Lagos residents, from digital innovation to the everyday realities of running a business or accessing quality healthcare.

According to Hamzat, his vision is to create an environment where businesses can thrive and government systems can operate more efficiently. This emphasis on efficiency suggests a governance style focused not just on new projects, but on making existing systems work better for residents and investors alike a concern that continues to shape conversations around ease of doing business in Nigeria’s commercial capital.
Central to Hamzat’s proposed agenda is the Digital Lagos 2.0 initiative, which would deploy artificial intelligence, blockchain and smart-city technologies to improve digital governance and service delivery. The initiative points to a deliberate push toward modernising how government interacts with citizens, potentially streamlining processes that residents and businesses currently navigate through traditional, often slower, channels.
The APC candidate said the next chapter for Lagos should build on existing progress while taking the state to a new level of innovation, inclusion and infrastructure. This framing positions his proposed agenda not as a break from the current administration’s direction, but as a continuation and expansion of it, with an added emphasis on technology-driven governance and broader inclusion across sectors.

As Lagos continues to grapple with the demands of rapid urbanisation, population growth and economic pressures, proposals like Hamzat’s Digital Lagos 2.0 and his stated focus areas are likely to remain a talking point as residents assess what the next phase of leadership in the state could look like.
