The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man, Ayomide Kamula, over the alleged gang rape of a 19-year-old woman in the Oke Sopen area of Ijebu-Igbo.
The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday, August 30, 2026, when the victim went to collect a key in the area and was allegedly dragged into a building by two men.
The victim, whose identity is withheld, alleged that one of the suspects, whom she identified as Bolu, and his accomplice, Ayo, sexually assaulted her. She said she knew one of the men but was not familiar with the other.
Confirming the arrest on Thursday, the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Opeyemi Oluborode, said the victim’s mother formally reported the incident at the Ijebu-Igbo Divisional Police Station on Tuesday, September 1.
He said police operatives secured the scene, gathered evidence and took the victim to the General Hospital for medical examination and care.
According to the police, Kamula is currently in custody and assisting with the investigation, while efforts have been intensified to arrest his alleged accomplice, identified as Boye Balogun, who is reportedly at large.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
The state Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, reaffirmed the command’s zero-tolerance policy towards sexual and gender-based violence, assuring the victim’s family that the matter would be thoroughly and discreetly investigated.
The police said the fleeing suspect would be pursued and, if apprehended and found culpable through due process, prosecuted in accordance with the law.
