Vice President Kashim Shettima has urged Nigerians to uphold unity, peaceful coexistence, and collective sacrifice as the country continues its journey toward national renewal and sustainable development under the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
Shettima made the call in his 2026 Eid-el-Kabir message to Nigerians, contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Stanley Nkwocha.
The Vice President said the significance of Eid-el-Kabir goes beyond celebration, noting that the season reflects values such as faith, obedience, sacrifice, compassion, and support for one another, as demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim.
According to him, Nigerians must continue to strengthen the bonds of unity and tolerance regardless of ethnic, religious, or political differences.
“This is a period of sober reflection and a time to extend love and support to the less privileged among us,” Shettima said.
“What binds us together is greater than whatever divides us. As a people, we must continue to promote unity, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence for the progress and prosperity of our nation.”
The Vice President stressed that meaningful national development can only thrive in an atmosphere of peace, trust, and cooperation, urging citizens to work together in addressing the country’s common challenges.
He acknowledged that the ongoing reforms by the Tinubu administration may require patience and sacrifice from Nigerians but maintained that the measures are necessary to rebuild a stronger and more stable country.
“Our nation is currently undergoing a process of renewal and transformation aimed at securing a better and more prosperous future for generations to come,” he stated.
Shettima also appealed to Nigerians to continue supporting the administration’s reform agenda, saying collective sacrifice and unity of purpose remain vital to tackling insecurity, poverty, and economic hardship.
He assured citizens that the Federal Government remains committed to restoring peace and security across the country, while commending members of the armed forces and security agencies for their dedication and sacrifices in protecting lives and property.
“No matter how long the night may seem, dawn will surely come. Nigeria is steadily moving on the path of peace, recovery, and sustainable development,” the Vice President added.
