Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has assured residents that the state government is working tirelessly to secure the release of pupils and teachers abducted from schools in Oriire Local Government Area, stating that the victims remain a top priority for both the government and security agencies.
In his monthly newsletter to residents, the governor acknowledged the pain, anxiety, and uncertainty faced by families and communities since the abduction occurred 27 days ago in the Yawota and Ahoro-Esinle communities.
Makinde described the situation as one of the most difficult moments for the state, noting that many families have continued to live without knowing the fate of their loved ones.

“It has been 27 days since our children and teachers were forcefully taken from their schools. For 27 days, families have gone to bed without their loved ones. For 27 days, communities have lived with uncertainty,” he said.
The governor admitted that repeated assurances may have become difficult for some residents to accept due to the prolonged captivity of the victims but stressed that rescue efforts have remained active and relentless.
According to him, security considerations prevent the government from revealing operational details, but he assured residents that every credible lead is being pursued to ensure the safe return of the abductees.
Makinde disclosed that intelligence reports indicate the victims are believed to be within the wider Old Oyo National Park axis, a vast area covering about 2,500 square kilometres and stretching across parts of 10 local government areas.
He explained that the difficult terrain and expansive nature of the area have posed significant challenges to rescue operations, requiring patience, coordination, and sustained efforts from security agencies.
The governor also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities through the state’s toll-free emergency line, 615, while warning against the spread of unverified information that could jeopardise ongoing rescue efforts.
Reassuring affected families, Makinde stated that the abducted pupils and teachers have not been forgotten and remain at the centre of ongoing security operations.
“We are doing everything within our power to bring them home safely,” he said, while calling on residents to continue praying for the safe return of the victims.
The abduction of the pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area has continued to attract widespread concern across Oyo State, with residents and stakeholders awaiting positive developments in the rescue mission.
