Bayern Munich striker and England captain Harry Kane has won the 2026 men’s Ballon d’Or, becoming the first English footballer in 25 years to receive the prestigious individual award.
Kane was announced as the winner at the 70th edition of the ceremony held at the London Palladium on Monday, October 26, 2026. He succeeds previous winners after an outstanding season for Bayern Munich and the England national team.

The 33-year-old forward scored 61 goals in 51 appearances for Bayern during the 2025/26 club season and finished with 73 goals for club and country. His performances helped Bayern secure the Bundesliga title and domestic cup, while he also scored six goals at the 2026 FIFA World Cup as England reached the semi-finals.

Kane finished ahead of Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé, who came second, and Barcelona youngster Lamine Yamal, who placed third. Manchester City midfielder Rodri and Inter Miami star Lionel Messi completed the top five.
With the victory, Kane becomes the first Englishman to win the men’s Ballon d’Or since Michael Owen claimed the honour in 2001. He joins a distinguished group of English winners that includes Stanley Matthews, Bobby Charlton and Kevin Keegan.
Reacting to the award, Kane expressed gratitude to those who voted for him and acknowledged the support of his teammates, coaches and family, describing the campaign as the best season of his career.
Spain and Barcelona star Alexia Putellas won the women’s Ballon d’Or, securing the award for the third time in her career. Other honours at the ceremony recognised outstanding performances by players, coaches and clubs across men’s and women’s football.
