Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has expressed sadness over the death of Pa Reuben Fasoranti, the leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, who died at the age of 100.
In a condolence message issued on Tuesday, Makinde described Fasoranti as a respected Yoruba elder whose century-long life was marked by wisdom, courage, integrity and dedication to public service.
The governor said the late elder statesman played a significant role in shaping political thought and providing guidance to successive generations. He described his passing as a major loss to the Yoruba people, noting that his contributions to politics, culture and national development would remain part of his enduring legacy.
Makinde extended his condolences to the Fasoranti family, the people of Akure Kingdom, the Ondo State Government and the wider Yoruba community. He also urged Nigerians to preserve the values of discipline, integrity and selfless service associated with the late Afenifere leader.
Fasoranti, who celebrated his 100th birthday in May 2026, was a prominent politician, administrator and pro-democracy activist whose public life spanned several decades. Afenifere described his death as the end of an era and said arrangements for his burial would be announced in due course.
