The Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Engr. Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, has commended officers and men of the Nigerian Armed Forces for their sacrifices and efforts in protecting the country’s territorial integrity.

The monarch made the remarks on Thursday when he received the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 2 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Auwalu Mahmuda, who paid a visit to the palace in Oyo. He said the sacrifices of military personnel deserved more than ceremonial recognition, urging Nigerians and relevant authorities to take concrete steps to ensure their efforts contribute to lasting peace and security.

Oba Owoade also highlighted the importance of security to economic growth and social development, noting that traditional rulers have a role to play in maintaining communal peace and working with security agencies to address emerging threats. He welcomed the deployment of the first batch of troops to the temporary site of the new Brigade and Garrison Barracks in Oyo, and pledged his support for the welfare of the personnel and a conducive working environment.

Speaking earlier, Major General Mahmuda said the new Oyo facility would be complemented by additional barracks in Kisi, Oyo State, and Ile-Ife, Osun State. He explained that the Kisi facility would serve as a Battalion Barracks, while the Ile-Ife facility would house an Artillery Regiment, both under the supervision of the Oyo Brigade and Garrison.
The GOC also disclosed that additional troops would soon be deployed to the operational area to strengthen security and protect lives and property. He appreciated the Alaafin for supporting the troops, particularly in addressing basic needs such as water, electricity, accommodation, sanitation and solar lighting at the temporary facility.
