The Oyo State Government has warned residents against road obstruction, thuggery and any act capable of disrupting public peace during the 2026 Egungun Festival in Ibadan.

The Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatubosun, said the government would not tolerate unlawful activities during the celebration, noting that some individuals have been using the festival as an excuse to block roads and impede the movement of residents and motorists.
He urged participants to celebrate responsibly and respect the rights of others, stressing that cultural and religious festivities should not constitute a public nuisance.

The government also prohibited the possession, display or use of weapons and other dangerous objects during the festival, warning that offenders would be arrested and prosecuted.
Olatubosun called on security agencies to ensure strict enforcement of law and order throughout the celebration, reaffirming the state’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
He added that violence, vendetta, thuggery and any conduct capable of disturbing public peace would not be tolerated during the festival.
