Tinubu Appoints Former UNILAG Vice-Chancellor, Ogundipe, as NUC Board Chairman

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe as the Chairman of the Governing Board of the National Universities Commission (NUC).

Ogundipe, a former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, succeeds Professor Olufemi Aina, who resigned from the position less than a year after his appointment.

A professor of Botany, Ogundipe is renowned for his work in molecular plant taxonomy, ethnobotany, cytogenetics, forensic botany, and ecological conservation. He holds a PhD from Obafemi Awolowo University and an MBA from the University of Lagos.

Currently serving as Pro-Chancellor of Redeemer’s University, Ogundipe is also a fellow of several professional bodies, including the Nigerian Academy of Science, the Linnaean Society of London, and the Royal Society of Biology.

According to the Presidency, Ogundipe is expected to provide visionary leadership for the NUC, strengthen academic standards, improve funding and global competitiveness, and support ongoing reforms aimed at enhancing quality, access, and integrity in Nigeria’s university system.
