There are strong indications that the 39 abducted schoolchildren and seven teachers from Ahoro-Esinle, Yawota and Alawusa communities in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State may soon regain their freedom as security agencies intensify rescue operations.
Security sources revealed that troops and other operatives involved in the mission have surrounded a suspected hideout within the National Park forest area where the victims are believed to be held.
According to the sources, security personnel have effectively blocked major escape routes in and around the forest, restricting the movement of the abductors and limiting their options.

The victims were kidnapped on May 15, 2026, when armed terrorists attacked three schools in Oriire Local Government Area and abducted 46 people.
Investigations indicate that increasing pressure from security forces may have forced the kidnappers to change tactics. Sources disclosed that the group recently killed one of the abducted teachers, allegedly in an attempt to intimidate authorities and influence ongoing rescue efforts.
The kidnappers were initially reported to have demanded the release of detained terrorist leaders, payment of ransom, provision of two Hilux vehicles and the implementation of Sharia-related laws.
Among those whose release was demanded were senior members of the Ansaru terrorist group, including Mahmud Usman, also known as Abu Bara’a or Abbas Mukhtar, and his deputy, Abubakar Abba, alias Isah Adam or Mahmud Al-Nigeri, both arrested by the Department of State Services last year.
However, security sources now say the terrorists have reportedly dropped some of their earlier demands and are focusing mainly on ransom negotiations as security forces continue to tighten their grip on the area.
Further intelligence reports suggest that the leader of the kidnapping gang is an indigene of Oriire Local Government Area who allegedly became radicalised and later joined the Ansaru terrorist network.
Authorities also revealed that the affected communities are located near a border corridor leading towards the Niger Republic and the Kainji axis, a region known for difficult terrain and poor communication networks.
Security agencies disclosed that intelligence reports had earlier warned of possible attacks on schools in the area, prompting precautionary measures, including the temporary closure of some schools.
Officials noted that sustained military offensives against terrorist groups across the country have forced many insurgents to abandon their traditional strongholds and target vulnerable communities.

Recent operations by security agencies have reportedly resulted in the elimination of at least 168 high-profile terrorist commanders, while several others have been arrested or forced to flee to neighbouring countries.
A senior security official expressed confidence that ongoing operations would ultimately succeed, assuring that security agencies would continue their offensive until criminal groups are dismantled and the victims rescued.
Meanwhile, the Oyo State Police Command has dismissed claims that Yoruba Nation agitator, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, facilitated the release of kidnapping victims in Igboho, Oorelope Local Government Area.
The command described reports linking Igboho to any rescue operation as unverified and maintained that there was no official confirmation of such involvement.
The clarification followed widespread circulation of videos and reports claiming that victims abducted in Igboho regained their freedom after an ultimatum issued by Igboho to the kidnappers.
Police spokesperson DSP Olayinka Ayanlade urged members of the public to rely only on official information from security agencies and avoid spreading unconfirmed reports.
