Extra services scheduled as corporation anticipates heavy passenger traffic during the festive period.
The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced a temporary expansion of train services on the Lagos-Ibadan route to ease expected high passenger demand during the upcoming Sallah (Eid-el-Kabir) celebrations.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the NRC’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, said the adjustment will take effect on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.
Under the new arrangement, the corporation will run six train trips on the Lagos-Ibadan corridor on Tuesday, up from the usual four. Departures from Lagos will be at 7:45am, 1:40pm, and 4:00pm, while trains from Ibadan will leave at 8:00am, 10:50am, and 4:30pm.

The NRC explained that the increase is designed to accommodate the surge in passengers traveling to celebrate with family and loved ones. The extra services, however, will be temporary.
“Immediately after the Sallah celebration, the normal Tuesday timetable of four trips will resume,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, the corporation also adjusted its Thursday schedule. Only four trips will run on Thursday, May 28, 2026, instead of the usual six. The regular six-trip Thursday service will return the following week.
In a related development, the Osun State Government will sponsor its annual free Sallah train service for indigenes traveling home. The special train will depart from Iddo Station in Lagos on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, and return from Osogbo to Lagos on Thursday, May 28, 2026.
The NRC noted that the free service is being provided through a paid partnership with the Osun State Government.
The corporation reassured passengers of its commitment to delivering safe, efficient, and reliable rail services across the country and wished all Nigerians a peaceful and joyous Sallah celebration.
