Oyo Assembly Mourns Corps Member Killed in Ibadan Truck Accident

A serving National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Abidakun Oluwatosin, has died in a road accident involving an articulated truck in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The incident occurred on Monday around Agodi Gardens, behind the Oyo State Government Secretariat, when the truck reportedly rammed into a motorcycle conveying Oluwatosin and another corps member. Oluwatosin, who had only recently resumed her primary assignment at the Oyo State House of Assembly, was said to be returning home after work when the crash occurred.

Her colleague survived the crash but sustained injuries and is receiving treatment at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the incident, saying the deceased’s body was taken to the Adeoyo Hospital morgue while the injured victim was evacuated for medical attention.

Eyewitnesses alleged that the articulated truck had earlier been involved in multiple collisions around the Sango area before proceeding towards Agodi Gardens. One witness claimed the driver was attempting to escape after the earlier collisions when the truck eventually struck the motorcycle carrying the corps members. The circumstances surrounding the earlier crashes and the alleged attempt to flee have not been independently established.

Reacting to the tragedy, Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, expressed deep sorrow over Oluwatosin’s death, describing it as a painful loss, particularly because she had only just begun her national service. He commiserated with her family, friends and fellow corps members while praying for the speedy and complete recovery of the survivor.
