The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays in commemoration of this year’s Eid-ul-Adha celebration.
The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced the declaration in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Magdalene Ajani.
According to the statement, the declaration reflects the government’s recognition of the faith and spiritual values of millions of Muslims in Nigeria joining the global Islamic community in observing the sacred festival.
Tunji-Ojo extended the Federal Government’s greetings to Muslim faithful at home and in the diaspora, describing Eid-ul-Adha as a celebration that symbolises sacrifice, obedience to God, and compassion towards humanity.
He also urged Nigerians to use the festive period to pray for the nation and seek divine guidance as the country continues its pursuit of peace, security, and economic prosperity.
“It is in the spirit of brotherhood, shared humanity, and national unity that the Federal Government wishes all Muslims a peaceful, blessed, and joyous celebration,” the statement added.
