Oyo Gets Major Road Boost as Tinubu Approves Multi-Billion Naira Highway Projects Across Nigeria

President Bola Tinubu has approved several multi-billion-naira road projects in Oyo State as part of a wider Federal Government infrastructure package valued at over ₦3.9 trillion covering 27 road projects across 15 states.

The approvals were announced by the Minister of Works, David Umahi, while briefing journalists after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Among the projects approved for Oyo State is the ₦265 billion reconstruction of the Iseyin–Eruwa–Agbesi Road, which links Oyo and Kwara states. The council also approved ₦217 billion for the dualisation of the old alignment from Ijaye through the Federal Government College to Ilorin Road, with a spur to Akinmorin.

Also approved is ₦110 billion for the Ogbomoso–Oko–Illupu Road, which connects Oyo and Osun states, as well as ₦98 billion for the construction of the 30-kilometre Idi-Araba–Ayede–Olodo Road.

In addition, the Federal Executive Council approved ₦82 billion for the rehabilitation of Igbeti Road, ₦74 billion for the construction of the Igbeti–Soro–Kishi Road, and ₦15.5 billion for the 13-kilometre Badeku–Jaiye Road, all within Oyo State.

Umahi also disclosed that the council approved the full business case for the operation and maintenance concession of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, with immediate reconstruction of failed sections along the Ibadan axis using concrete pavement.

Beyond Oyo, the Federal Executive Council approved major road projects across Adamawa, Benue, Cross River, Ebonyi, Ekiti, Kogi, Kwara, Lagos, Niger, Ondo, Osun, Plateau, Taraba and Yobe states.

Among the largest approvals is the ₦1.8 trillion re-award of the 409-kilometre dual carriageway project in Niger State under the Tax Credit Scheme to businessman Aliko Dangote.

Other notable projects include the ₦276 billion dualisation of the Ilorin–Ogbomoso Road, ₦116 billion for the Abakaliki–Afikpo Road in Ebonyi State, ₦104 billion for the rehabilitation of sections of the Ilorin–Omorin–Ebe–Kabba–Obajana Road, and ₦86 billion each for the reconstruction of the Enugu–Abakaliki Road and the Adikpo–Ajayi–Tese–Akpa–Otukpo Road linking Benue and Cross River states.

The council also approved several other road rehabilitation and construction projects across the remaining beneficiary states as part of efforts to improve road infrastructure and enhance connectivity nationwide.

Umahi further announced that the first 118-kilometre section of the Abuja–Kaduna–Kano Highway, valued at ₦137 billion, has been completed.
